The ultimate objective of the game to the player is to be the last one standing. The huge variety of weapons are obtainable by collecting pick-ups scattered throughout the circuit. Each vehicle in the game offers different abilities and statistics. In Single-player mode, the player needs to compete against AI-controlled cars and effort to destroy them using the variety of built-in weapons in his vehicle.
The player acts as the protagonist, and at first, he has to select his vehicle and an arena in the Story Mode. The story revolves around the protagonist named as Sweet Tooth, who must win multiple competition by eliminating his opponent. It is the 4th title in the series of Twisted Metal and the 2nd game developed by 989 Studios.
